The 2000's

Today when i look back 25 years to 2000-2010 i think of many ups and downs. The downs by far overrule the good parts of the decade. when i think of the decade right away i think about 9/11,01, Obama being elected and Hurricane Katrina.
September 11, 2001 effected the US then very hard and is still effecting us in some and many ways. When it happened and after it happen it put Americans into a frenzy. Americans were concerned about our nations security and inabilities to protect our nation. What happened was hijackers/terrorists took over a couple planes and crashed them into the world trade centers. That made the stock markets crash and dragged our economy down. That also started the war in Afghanistan and the searches for the leaders of the terrorists. They continued to spend lots of money on those searches and wars for a while. We still haven't recovered fully and our protection keeps getting more and more complex.
Another huge disaster in the 2000-2010 decade was hurricane Katrina. It wiped out parts and citys in many states. This made the New Orleans saints football team to have to play in a different city for the year because the Superdome, where they play, was being used and was filled as a home shelter. This a few years after 9/11 was huge on our economy again. We were still in war at this time too. Places that got wiped are still not the same. People relied on technology to get the news about hurricane Katrina. They turned open their brand new laptops and went onto their high speed Internet to keep updated on the news. The technology that we introduced in the early 2000's was a huge part in us then and bigger now.
Maybe the most defying event in that decade was America having its first black president. Many people wanted change in our government that we selected Obama to lead our country.  He passed many bills that costed our nation more money and sent our economy down more and almost costed us a depression. Many people didn't want to listen to all of what he was talking about so many Americans got their ipods out. The ipod became very popular in this decade and many people used them to zone out and block people out. "We have leaned back on our ipods to get rid of the bad news we would always hear" said a 40 year old now who was 15 wen Obama was in office.
The US in the first 10 years of the 2000's was not how we would have wanted to start a decade.
